On attaining necessary quorum. President called the Special General Meeting (SGM) to order and extended a warm welcome to all members present.
Initiating the proceeding, Sri Aloke Kumar Chowdhury announced the sad demise of 5 residents of our block since the last AGM and one minute`s silence was observed to pay homage to the departed soul. After this he requested the Secretary, Dr. Utpal Sadhu to proceed with the agenda, which was circulated by Notice No. SLFEBRA/2023-25/02 (Notice for SGM) dated 2nd July 2023.
Agenda No. 1. Formation of Puja Sub-Committees: The Secretary proposed the names of the Conveners and Joint Conveners of different Puja Sub-Committees, which were approved in EC meeting dated 02.07.2023. The names of the Conveners and Joint Conveners of Puja Sub-Committees are annexed as Enclosure-I.
The Secretary then also proposed the names of the Conveners and Joint Conveners of different Year-Round Sub-Committees, which were approved in EC meeting dated 02.07.2023. The names of the Conveners and Joint Conveners of the Year-Round Sub-Committees are annexed as Enclosure-II.
Members present unanimously accorded approval all the Sub-Committees.
Agenda No. 2. Finalization of the. yearly subscriptions of Membership and Pujas:
The President proposed that the Annual Membership Subscription remaining unchanged at Rs.1000 /-, the Subscriptions for all Pujas (Durga Puja, Lakhmi Puja, Kali Puja and Saraswati Puja) may be raised from. present Rs. 800/- to Rs. 1500/- for the period 2023-24, to cope with the high inflation. He then invited suggestions from members on the proposal.
The following members presented their views.-
1. Sri Pankaj Kapoor and Sri Kalyan Mukherjee suggested that the Puja Subscription be made Rs. 1300/- instead of Rs. 1500/-.
2. Sri Basab Basak suggested that Puja Subscription be raised by Rs . 200/- to Rs . 1000/-.
3. Sri N.K. Bose opposed to such huge increase in Puja Subscription. He proposed that the total subscriptions (Membership and Puja) should be restricted to Rs. 2000/-. He also suggested that any shortfall may be compensated by encashment of Fixed Deposits.
4. Sri Gautam Ray mentioned that since Puja Subscription is being increased due to price inflation, membership subscription also needs to be increased for the same reason and it should be made Rs. 1200/-.
After detailed deliberations, the House resolved to increase the Annual Membership Subscription from ,Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 1200/- and Puja Subscription from Rs. 800/- to Rs. 100O/- for the period 2023-24.
Agenda No. 3. Budgetary Allocation for the. Year 2023-24: The Treasurer submitted the budgetary proposal for the year 2023-24, which was approved by the House.
Agenda No. 4. Miscellaneous: -
1. Sri Pranab Das said that a list of members who have not paid subscription be prepared and they may be approached for renewal of their membership.
2. Sri Asok Ray proposed to raise the Advt. collection and forming teams to collect subscription.
3. Sri Shailendra Singh said that notices/ circulars, which are distributed by hard copy, may be printed on both sides of a page to reduce cost. He also proposed to circulate all these notices/ circulars online. He further said to fix the total subscription at Rs. 2000/- to reduce burden on some members. He also said that the existing email id of the Association (secretary@saltlakefeblock.in) be continued.
4. Sri Kalyan Mukherjee proposed to amend the rules to reduce the cooling/ waiting period of EC members from present 4 years to 2years after holding office.
5. Sri Ravi Singh proposed to raise the subscriptions @Rs. 200/- per year. He also requested that the Advt. forms may be made available as soon as possible.
6. Sri Indranil Aich said that the present trend of Advt. may be followed and a new versions of digital advertisement may be displayed in Puja Pandal. He also said that the civic issues, like road repairing, lighting, etc. are under the purview of BMC and not under SLFEBRA and it should be communicated to all block residents to remove confusions. He further- said that to encourage Hindi speaking members, proof reading of the Hindi Section of our Puja souvenir needs to, be improved.
7. Smt. Jharna Banerjee said that quality of Dhaki should be improved.
There being no other agenda, the meeting ended with vote of thanks to the Chair.
P.S.: After the meeting we received several requests and feedback for keeping the membership subscription unchanged at Rs. 1000/-. To honour their requests. The matter was placed in the EC Meeting on 30.07.2023 where it was decided to keep the membership subscription at Rs. 1000/-.
